Customer: Deutsche Bahn AG
On May 15, 2020, a framework agreement was concluded between ALMEX GmbH and Deutsche Bahn AG for the delivery of at least 500 ticket vending machines of the latest third generation. As early as 1995, ALMEX GmbH supplied Deutsche Bahn AG with, among other things, 3,000 first-generation machines. In 2007, 3,500 units of the second generation were commissioned.
ALMEX is also a reliable partner for Deutsche Bahn AG as a long-standing supplier of mobile terminals for train attendants, such as the POS MTx.
The delivery of 500 state-of-the-art ticket vending machines is already scheduled to be completed by 2025.
Today, the requirements for a ticket vending machine equipped for future technologies include not only reliable operational capability, ease of use, and a competitive price, but also a high degree of modularity in equipment and the use of current technologies, while also considering resource protection and environmental friendliness.
The wide selection of modules impressed, ranging from a simple 15″ monitor (touch screen) to a combination of two screens—where one screen can be used for live video consultation, for example—up to a 32″ screen.
Payment processes can be carried out with cash, but also cashless via contactless card readers or eTickets. Replacing the previously common change storage units with reliable discriminators and the use of a second printer system increase the availability of the machines and reduce the number of service calls.
The clear separation of hardware and software functionalities enables simple and flexible implementation of future requirements. The hardware is connected via so-called basic services, which operate independently of the manufacturer through the use of standardized UPOS drivers.
Durable hardware and ease of service represent sustainability and resource efficiency, which were already emphasized during the procurement of energy-efficient assemblies and components.
A further focus was placed on protection against vandalism and attempted break-ins. The new machine meets current VdS requirements.
In addition to the technical implementation, the new ticket vending machines also offer additional ease of use for passengers through an innovative and modern design. Signaling, such as illuminated surfaces and real-time displays in the machine’s lighting attachment, simplifies operation and provides even more information in a contemporary design.
